If You Think You Have Excessive Bleeding

Walking into ER Katy, you’ll feel the difference from other emergency rooms and hospitals. We’ve created an environment that makes you feel comfortable, and we pride ourselves on treating you like a human, not a number.

You’re here today to learn more about excessive bleeding and how to stop or prevent that bleeding from doing long-term damage to your body.

Let’s start with understanding excessive bleeding and how it can occur.

Excessive bleeding can occur due to various causes, including trauma, surgery, or certain medical conditions such as hemophilia.

Some of the most common ways that someone may experience excessive bleeding include:

Wounds or cuts that won't stop bleeding: If you have a wound or cut that continues to bleed heavily even after applying pressure for an extended period, it may be a sign of excessive bleeding.

Vaginal bleeding: Women may experience excessive vaginal bleeding due to a miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, or other medical conditions.

Gastrointestinal bleeding: Excessive bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract may be caused by ulcers, polyps, or other conditions.

When you come to our emergency room for excessive bleeding, our staff will first assess your condition and perform any necessary tests or imaging studies to determine the location and severity of the bleeding. Then, depending on the nature of the bleeding, you may receive medication to manage your symptoms, observation, or more intensive treatments such as surgery.

In cases of mild bleeding, treatment typically involves applying pressure to the affected area and administering topical medication to help the blood clot. Surgery may be necessary in more severe cases, such as internal or uncontrolled bleeding, to stop the bleeding and prevent further damage.

At ER Katy, we have a proven track record of providing high-quality emergency care for excessive bleeding. Our medical team is highly experienced in treating many bleeding conditions. Preventing excessive bleeding can include wearing protective gear when engaging in activities that pose a risk for bleeding, such as contact sports or operating heavy machinery. It's also important to avoid activities that increase the risk of trauma, such as driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and to manage any underlying medical conditions that may contribute to bleeding.

We also understand the importance of compassionate care, especially regarding severe injuries like excessive bleeding. Our staff is committed to providing a caring and supportive environment, and we strive to make your experience as comfortable as possible. Additionally, we pride ourselves on our short wait times, so you can rest assured that you will be seen promptly and efficiently.

Took my 2 yr old son on New Year's Eve at 11 pm. They were very prompt and caring. Their treatment was right on the money. He had a very severe allergic reaction.

"Had we not taken our son to ER Katy, it's likely he wouldn't have made it through the night!"

"ER Katy Emergency Room saved our son's life. All I can say is that we went to an Urgent Care first, waited a ridiculous amount of time, and after we met [with our nurse we were] sent home. We did not feel comfortable with the "nurse" opinion; he seemed to be getting worse. At 1 AM, we rushed our son to a real doctor at ER Katy in the middle of the night and the doctor (real doctor!) and on-site X-Ray Tech found that my son's liver was cut in half. Had we not taken him to ER Katy (which was very local) it's likely he would not have made it through the night.

They reduced his pain immediately, the staff kept us sane and comfortable. The doctor made calls to transfer him to a specialist. ER Katy Doctors arranged everything. They were perfect, quick, professional, and efficient, and we owe them everything. They have doctors (real emergency room doctors) on staff 24 hours a day. I just thank God for ER Katy."
